The graduate non-degree program in Teaching English as Second Language Endorsement Preparation allows teachers with a current Ohio teaching license to advance their knowledge of language and second language learning in the P-12 context toward Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Endorsement. This non-degree program serves as recommendation to ODE Endorsement in multiage TESOL and is not a master's degree program. Students interested in obtaining a teaching license and a master's degree in TESL from Kent State University must be fully admitted to the MA TESL Teacher's Concentration.

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for unconditional admission
- Minimum 3.000 undergraduate GPA on a 4.000 point scale for unconditional admission
- Documentation of current Ohio license in any P-12 area of expertise;
- Official transcript(s)
- Two letters of recommendation
- English language proficiency - all international students must provide proof of English language proficiency (unless they meet specific exceptions) by earning one of the following:
- Minimum 550 TOEFL PBT score (paper-based version)
- Minimum 79 TOEFL IBT score (Internet-based version)
- Minimum 77 MELAB score
- Minimum 6.5 IELTS score
- Minimum 58 PTE score

An assessment of professional dispositions occurs in this course demonstrating Endorsement students' understanding of codes of ethics and professional standards appropriate to TESL and work with English Language Learners.
One hundred hours of field work as teacher assistants in area schools enable students to gain collaborative clinical experience as P-12 teachers.
Minimum 3.000 overall GPA
Licensure and Endorsement Information
Candidates seeking Ohio teaching licensure are required to pass specific requirements in order to apply for licensure from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). Students should consult the Special Education Department for specific program requirements and refer to the Ohio Department of Education - Educator Preparation website for more information on assessments specific to licensure type.
