Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates of this program will be able to:
- Apply advanced mathematical techniques in areas such as algebra, geometry, discrete mathematics, combinatorics, probability and statistics to solve complex problems relevant to secondary and college-level teaching.
- Construct rigorous mathematical proofs using standard methods like induction, contradiction and direct proof; and communicate mathematical reasoning clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, at a level appropriate for college instruction.
- Analyze how mathematical ideas have developed over time and historical context has shaped the discipline.
- Explore and present mathematically rich, non-standard recreational topics that are accessible to advanced high school students.
- Connect graduate-level content to high school and early college curricula, strengthening their ability to teach College Credit Plus (CCP) courses.
Full Description
The CCP Credentialing in Mathematics graduate certificate offers graduate coursework in mathematics for candidates interested in teaching at the college level. According to state requirements, in order to teach college-level courses, including College Credit Plus (CCP) courses, instructors must have a master's degree in the subject or a related field and have completed a minimum 18 graduate credit hours in the subject area. This certificate provides mathematics coursework for fulfilling the 18 graduate credit hour requirement for students who already have a master's degree (e.g., mathematics education or school administration).
Students who do not have a master's degree should enroll in the M.A. degree in Mathematics for Secondary School Teachers.
