Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies have rapidly become a new and growing asset class in the financial markets. This course explores the history of money and relate it to the operations of the current financial system. Financial system discussions center on general financial policy and the Federal Reserve. Different types of cryptocurrencies and their respective networks are explored and compared against bitcoin the token and Bitcoin the network. Characteristics such as proof of work, proof of stake, immutability and decentralization are discussed, analyzed and compared.
